home again, home again

Okay, so I really am a terrible blogger.  I feel like there is not a whole lot of extra time in my life right now to spend blogging...But I'm going to try to be better!

So Fall is in full swing and it's bittersweet. I'm ready for Fall but I will miss Summer.   This Summer was a wonderful one.  It was spent making great memories with my family and friends.

The highlight of my summer was, no question, this boy coming home.

He got home in July from serving a two year mission in Cambodia! I was so excited for him to come home, but this silly boy didn't actually tell me the day he was coming home until about three weeks before... and he didn't give any details about when I could come see him. Those two weeks before he got home were incredibly stressful for me because I wasn't really sure what to expect, and according to my family I was a little grumpy!

So here is the story:

He got home on a Friday afternoon.  I spent most of the day at work, I'm pretty sure I got nothing done that day, I could not concentrate! The whole day I kept thinking of where he was or what he was doing... "Okay he is on the plane!"  "His plane is probably landing!" "He is probably at the airport RIGHT NOW!"  His friends went to the airport to welcome him home and they posted a picture of him on Facebook.  At this point I couldn't breath! "Oh my gosh he is actually home! He is HOME!"

I got home from work and tried to keep myself busy! I didn't really want to be with anybody in case he didn't call.. I knew I would be embarrassed and wouldn't be able to hide my disappointment.  So I stayed at home and waited... and waited...and waited.   It started to get late and I was starting to panic. I was realizing that he actually might not call me.  My family was noticing my increasing anxiety, and I had to begin to accepted the fact that he would not be calling that night. I was extremely disappointed.  My sister in law came over and she, my mom and I went to get Cold Stone.  They tried to cheer me up, and I unsuccessfully tried to hide my disappointment.

On the drive home, my phone started to ring and it was from a number I didn't recognize.  My heart instantly dropped.  I think I stared at my phone for a good ten seconds before I answered.  On the other end of the call was a silly boy trying to play a prank on me.  I kept asking who it was and when he could hear the frustration in my voice he finally said, "Marlies, who do you think this is?" I think I let out a squeal and couldn't stop smiling.  He called me.

We talked for probably an hour or so and he said we could see each other the next day.  That Saturday night I slowly drove over to his house.  The whole time trying to tell myself to breath.  I pulled up to his house, he walked out, and I got out of my car.  And for the first time in two years I hugged my best friend.
